DAVID CHARLES FASZHOLZ
1933-2014
Dave is probably once again sketching and painting, doing crosswords, playing golf, tennis, horseshoes, baseball and basketball as his heavenly reward for running the race and receiving the prize made possible by his faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Dave was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Richard Faszholz and Mamie Krenning. He and his four brothers and sister grew up in Berkeley, California, attending Oxford Elementary and Garfield Junior High. Dave and his brothers were all remarkable athletes at Concordia High School and Junior College in Oakland, California. The Oakland Tribune featured the five brothers in the 2008 article "The Fab Faszholz Five." Click the link for the full article:
In 1956, Dave continued to excel in sports and completed an education degree at Concordia University Nebraska. He met Jean Gerdes while attending Concordia Oakland. They married in 1956 and moved to Houston, Texas where they began teaching careers and started their family. Later, they attended San Francisco State University, both earning master’s degrees in education. After retirement, they eventually relocated back to California and resided in Walnut Creek.
Dave is predeceased by his son, David Jr., and his brother Dick and wife Pat. He will be greatly missed and is survived by Jean, his wife of 57 years, who was his teammate, travel partner and fellow cabin lover, his son and daughter, Bret and Deborah Faszholz, his daughter Cynthia MacDonald (Kurt), and much-loved granddaughters Alana and Erica MacDonald who will always remember the extraordinary fun times and adventures they had with their Grandpa. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Annette), Eugene (Marian), Tom (Jean) and sister, Kay (Rich) and brother-in-law Paul (Gloria), and numerous nieces and nephews.
